Kathy Richie died last night.

About eight years ago I stopped at J's for breakfast for the first time. The first person I met there that day was Kathy Richie one of those people who have just that kind of poise and friendliness that makes everything look pretty good. We hit it off that morning and she would always say howdy even if I wasn't at her tables. Kathy battled with cancer almost the entire time I knew her. She came back time after time and clawed her happy way out of the fatigue and pain to go back to work. I spoke to her last Saturday and she laughed. She worked yesterday but I had a biscuit here because I had a thing or two to do. J's was somber this morning. They said she left last night. Kathy made life sweet.

I am in shock...Was on my way to Shreveport and my car overheated. Had to have it towed back to Dallas. The nice tow truck driver made the comment as we drove by J's on Midway that he had friends there. I said I did too. He asked me if I knew Glenn, I said I did and he called him on his cell. I have not seen Glenn in about a year but he told me he had been trying to get a hold of me to tell me Kathy had passed away. I just saw her a month ago. She said she was much better. I was able to give her a big hug. I will miss her terribly. I have been going to J'S for 14 years. Kathy was the positive, loving force in that diner. And I can not imagine J's without her and my prayers are with Earl now. I know they took care of each other. I am so sadden to hear about this.
